At BSD we believe that students need to implement what they learn as practical knowledge. Each semester we introduce a hypothetical project which they design, following a design processes while interacting with our experienced faculty. We culminate this journey with an external jury, where working professionals from the field give their valuable input individually to the students.
Every semester a different topic is introduced to the students like a suite room, a café, an apparel showroom, an office, a clubhouse, a residence or even a kiosk design. The students first research on their given topic, understanding the requirement in terms of function and spaces. Along with the design proctors an anthropometric analysis is done to create a foundation for the design process. The students then experiment with working around a concept and produce design options in terms of floor plans, furniture layouts, sections and elevations. By building scaled models, students then explore the 3rd dimension to visualize volume and better understand the spaces they are designing.
This design studio is an open discussion forum throughout the semester, where students and teacher from all semesters and batches interact and focus on design. At BSD we follow the concept that we all learn from each other through this design journey.
