In this intensive year-long course you will learn the skills that will make you a furniture designer for today’s market. The course covers the basics of furniture design approach, research and understanding methodology and execution of detail drawings. You will also learn how to understand your consumer, produce scale drawings and test your designs by creating 2D and 3D models. This course will help you practice the leap between ideas and 3D reality.
The course modules deal with anthropometry and ergonomics to provide you with the foundation of design knowledge, history of furniture design and modern furniture to keep you informed and updated, materials and upholstery that allows you to expand your creative and technical knowledge and technical drawing to help you execute your designs. During the course, you will develop your practical skills and work on exciting and realistic furniture design projects. You will improve your knowledge of product design through one on one discussions with the faculty.
Studio work shall deal with an extensive research elements of furniture design and extensive research about anatomy of furniture. Students are also required to conduct a case study /literature study for a better approach. Students are going to be exposed to the modern-day needs of India that encompass a broad sort of design circumstances. Considerable research is going to be involved as students will learn to acknowledge the virtues of the global design process.
Module – 2 | Upholstery and Finishes
Study and understand the usage of upholstery and finishes in variety used in furniture.
Introduction to different materials used in upholstery and different polishes and finishes for
the furniture to get a desired effect.
Module – 3 | Anthropometry
To have a deep understanding of different body positions and interaction with the furniture. An understanding on ergonomic factors included in this.
Studio work shall deal with an extensive research elements of furniture design and extensive research about anatomy of furniture. Students are also required to conduct a case study /literature study for a better approach.
Module-2 | History of Furniture
An understanding of the evolution of furnitures over the time of the ancient period to the time of
modernism with contemporary style.
Module-3 | Materials in Furniture
An understanding of the materials used in variety in furniture design.
