BVA in Interiors & Spatial Design
What is Interior and Spatial design?
Spatial design is a relatively new concept in the fields of design. It focuses on the relation of space with the flow of human movement. It is a spatial artistic discipline, which deals with the development of innovative and sustainable settings for human habitats. The emphasis of the discipline is upon working with people and space. The discipline communicates through interior design and architecture.
The interior and spatial designing course develops sensibilities to identify the Human-Space relationship and explore through design possibilities. The program aims to develop the ability to conceptualize, plan, design, and detail functional and aesthetical interior spaces. It trains you to creatively interpret cultural contexts both local and global, while integrating technical aspects such as structural systems, materials and construction, electrical, mechanicals, etc. The course will give you the opportunity to develop your own approach to the subject. Underpinned by theory and research, you will investigate and test spatial possibilities.
Interior and spatial designers are involved in the design or renovation of internal spaces, including structural alterations, furnishings, fixtures and fittings, lighting and colour schemes. You may work in a range of commercial, leisure or domestic settings. The job combines the efficient and functional use of space with an understanding of aesthetics. Some designers, particularly in the domestic market, are concerned solely with the appearance, rather than the structure, of the interior. As an Interior Spatial designer, you will
- Develop initial ideas and acquire key information about potential projects.
- Understand clients’ needs and the needs of the people using the building to develop design concepts and establish final briefs
- Consider materials and costs according to budgets.
- Research and gather information and photographs relating to the project
- Design with regards to the information gathered.
- Produce drawings, samples, mood boards etc.
- Work in a team with designers, consultants, contractors
- Supervising the execution process at site and implementing the designs.
